Dog and Pony Shows

G. was invited to speak at a special Board meeting, and asked if I would like to showcase some our teachers’ successes with technology, particularly mobile devices.  I put together a little slide show that included  a stop-motion animation of toilet-roll penguins narrated by two 6 year olds, 2 “movie trailers” created by grade 8 students, and a 15 second clip of a teacher speaking enthusiastically about her student’s project.

We hadn’t really rehearsed the Show, and I had sort of remembered where I was going to interject differently than G. remembered it, yet despite our awkward transitions, the magic still happened.

Sitting on the side, poised and ready to grab my 15 seconds of fame, I was reminded again about main goal… to highlight and celebrate what teachers are doing, and how kids are succeeding.  In the end, I probably didn’t speak more than a minute. Yet I was still easily able to convey my passion and excitement for all that is possible.
